Sarah Schuessler is a Los Angeles based costume designer with a varied body of work that spans from television and commercial costume design/styling, motion picture costuming, to original costume designs for theater and opera.
She has designed over a dozen new productions for director James Darrah, including a lauded Peter Grimes with Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony and Semele for Pacific MusicWorks in Seattle. With Opera Omaha, she has created costume designs for new productions of Handel's Agrippina, John Adams' A Flowering Tree, and most recently Handel's Semele. Additional opera designs with Darrah include work in Hawaii on L'Enfant et les Sortilèges, La tragédie de Carmen, and a staging of Handel's L'Allegro, as well as new productions of Dido and Aeneas, the US West Coast premiere of Jonathan Dove's Flight, and Brown's The Last Five Years for UCLA's School of Theater, Film, and Television. She holds an MFA from UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television and a BA from USC School of Theatre.
Favorite film and television credits include costume designing season 2 of Hulu's How I Met Your Father; set costuming for HBO's The Newsroom, Damien Chazelle's La La Land; and key costume buying for NBC's Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, Starz's Vida, HBO's Togetherness, 50 Shades Darker, and 50 Shades Freed.
